Workshop Girl Tries Indoor Rock Climbing

Today the workshop has walls — very tall ones. I stepped away from the workbench to see what happens when the next step is a handhold.

Before the first hold: a little preparation, a lot of looking up.

Get Ready

Shoes on, harness checked, chalk ready. From the floor, the wall looked like a puzzle I could solve by simply reaching up. Standing beneath it made that first move feel much bigger. Confidence starts before the climb, with taking a breath and being ready to try.

Climb

Up close, every hold asks for a small decision. Reach, shift, steady. I expected the climb to be all about pulling, but balance and patience had just as much to say. When I got stuck, looking around for another path was part of the fun.

One More Route?

Back on the bench, I checked my chalky hands and replayed the tricky parts. I didn’t need to have it all figured out to enjoy the climb. I just needed to be curious enough to give it a go—and now I’m already wondering what another route might feel like.

You don’t have to know the route before you start. Find the next hold, and keep climbing.
